  • Acted as own news editor: Searched for articles on AP News/Reuters to use on pages I was responsible for and laid out.

  • Searched for photos for my chosen articles; responsible for editing all photos to the newspaper’s image specifications.

  • Copy edited news, features and special sections for grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, consistency and libel, under deadlines.

  • Composers laid out all pages’ paper articles and photos with wax (paste-up), according to that editor’s layout.

  • All editors would make final edits (cuts) to pasted-up paper articles, by hand, with blue repro pen and composers’ X-ACTO knives.

  • In about mid-1996, I got the very first computer, with QuarkXPress, out of all the other copy/page editors in the newsroom.
